I offer three different services for gardeners: consultations, talks, and classes.
Garden Design Consultations
Perennial Wisdom provides a design consultation service for persons with small perennial gardens in New York’s Capital District. Its mission is to help people who like to garden but need a little “perennial wisdom” to clarify and realize their dreams. Simple but fundamental design principles can help the average gardener to have an above-average garden.
Have your foundation plantings become a nightmare instead of a joy? Are you bored by your perennial garden or does it seem too busy? Are you looking for a small tree for your backyard? Before you start down the garden path, call me. Perhaps I can help.
Assistance includes help with clarifying gardening goals, on-site visits, site assessments, design suggestions, plant lists, help with placing plants. I do not do installation or maintenance. Fees are assessed on an hourly basis.
Talks
Perennial Wisdom talks cover a range of topics, from gardening basics like “Waking up the Garden in Spring” and “Putting the Garden to Bed” to more specialized topics such “Lower-Maintenance Perennial Gardening” and “Interesting and Underused Trees.” They are designed to provide practical advice for designing and maintaining a garden. They are also designed to explore what it means to be a gardener. Fees vary according to size and location of group. All talks are available via Zoom format as well as in person.

Classes
Perennial Wisdom classes are held at my home and are designed to provide those who take them with an “in garden” experience. Classes give those participating the chance to view on-site the topic under discussion. After all, seeing is believing and nothing quite equals the chance to see a design concept in action. Class size is limited to 10 so that there is time for individual attention. Current cost is $25 per person. Classes run from 1 to 1 ½ hours.
